The EEOC released a statement celebrating the one-year anniversary of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009. President Obama signed the bill into law on January 29, 2009. The EEOC noted that in the year since the Act took effect, some 4,800 charges were filed with the EEOC alleging wage discrimination. The 2009-2010 defense spending bill, which President Obama signed into law on December 19, 2009, included provisions to extend and expand the COBRA subsidy program that was enacted under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The U.S. Department of Labor and EEOC have released their long-awaited semi-annual regulatory agendas this morning.
The agenda for all DOL agencies, including OFCCP, is posted at http://www.dol.gov/regulations/. DOL is scheduling Q&A sessions for each DOL subagency to discuss its specific regulatory agenda. OFCCP’s Q&A is scheduled for Tuesday, December 8 at 3pm EST.

The U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions has scheduled a hearing on Thursday, November 5, 2009 on the “Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) (S. 1584/H.R. 3017). ENDA would provide basic protections against workplace discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. ENDA would not cover businesses with fewer than 15 employees or apply to religious organizations. Witnesses scheduled to testify include Tom Perez, Assistant Attorney General, Civil Rights Division at the U.S. Department of Justice. The full witness list is here.
